Visit the PHS McLean Library at 100 North 20th Street in Philadelphia from October 29–November 30 for GOURD-geous! A PHS Plant Exhibition. See beautiful and exotic gourds, pumpkins, and other seasonal delights from PHS Meadowbrook Farm and local artisans, including the gourd at right entitled, “Jonah and the Great Fish,” created with pyrography and watercolor pencil by Jenn Avery. There will be special lectures and demonstrations, as well as a selection of books and reference materials to enjoy.
On Monday, October 29 from 4:30 to 5:30 pm, horticulturalist Mona Gold will share creative, easy, inexpensive, and fun gourd crafts for kids.
On Tuesday, November 6 from 6 to 7 pm, PHS Meadowbrook Farm staffer Bandon Huber will discuss how to grow, use, and maintain these fascinating vines and their unusual fruits.
On Wednesday, November 7 at 10:30 am, young children can learn about gardening and gourds through books read by story teller Hasha Salaman. For children ages 3 to 6 accompanied by an adult. For more information contact Priscilla Becroft.
On Monday, November 12 from 11 am to 12:30 pm, Valerie McLaughlin, Susan Essick, and Patti Kelly will demonstrate Thanksgiving floral designs and make a hand-tied bouquet, table arrangement, and wreath.
