It was a PHeaSt to remember–afternoon showers broke just in time for an unseasonably warm evening at the PHS warehouse in The Philadelphia Navy Yard on Friday, as hundreds of guests sampled farm-to-table specialties from more than 20 area restaurants, tasted a variety of fine spirits, and were awed by the transformation of the industrial space into a chic, rustic party venue.

Party goers were encouraged to vote for their favorite dish, but many couldn’t decide and chose to vote for more than one. From an intense drinking chocolate to braised short ribs to a raw beet delicacy, the variety of food seemed endless. The Subaru People’s Choice winner was The Whip Tavern with Executive Chef Wyatt P Lash, Jr. and grower Nice Roots Farm at SHARE of Hunting Park, who served herb-crusted pork tenderloin with sweet potato puree and bacon-braised Brussels sprouts; second place went to Davio’s with chef David Boyle and Growing Home Gardens; and third place went to Deterra with chef Jeffrey Power and Gold Coin Farm. Eric Smith was the lucky guest who voted for The Whip and was randomly chosen to win a free dinner for two. You can try your hand at recreating some of the dishes by downloading the recipes.

We want to thank our sponsors, including Subaru; Philadelphia Magazine; and EP Henry (find the full list here); all of the restaurant staff members and chefs; the growers and farmers; our beverage suppliers; and especially our guests who made this a huge success—with all proceeds going to City Harvest, the PHS program that provides food to more than 1,000 families each week. We look forward to seeing you at next year’s PHeaSt!
