The PHS City Harvest program was recently highlighted in a video by USA Today, showing the life cycle of plants started in a prison greenhouse to the distribution sites where fresh produce is made available to people in the Greater Philadelphia area. Proceeds from PHeaSt will go directly to the PHS City Harvest program that feeds 1,000 families in need each week.
What is PHeaSt? It’s a one-of-a-kind, farm-to-table dinner party that PHS is hosting in our warehouse at the Navy Yard on October 19, 2012, from 7 to 10 pm (order your tickets here!). Some of the area’s best restaurants will be represented, using locally sourced ingredients to create fabulous fall dishes. Here is our fourth installment in our blog series about the restaurants that will be featured at PHeaSt. (Click here to catch up on the others.)
Cescaphe Event Croup
Since its first-ever event in February 2004, Cescaphé has become renowned for its “over-the-top” food, service, professionalism, creativity, and meticulous attention to detail. Cescaphe Event Group offers many services and venues for hosting elegant events. Executive Chef Steve Calise will be working with the Burholme and Airport Garden in the creation of his dish for PHeaSt.
Sazon
This BYOB restaurant in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia features home-style Venezuelan cuisine. Chef Judith Suzarra Campbell has created a vegetarian-friendly menu in her authentic and traditional style, making Sazon’s food an unforgettable experience. She bought her family recipes from her “pueblo” Puerto la Cruz, Venezuela to Philadelphia, and will be working with City Harvest contributor, the Front Yard Garden, at PHeaSt.
The Whip Tavern
The Whip is an English pub in the heart of horse country in Coatesville, serving “comfort food of the highest order” according to The Philadelphia Inquirer, plus a wide selection of beers and ales. The authentic pub atmosphere is a casual and inviting place to try traditional English dishes created from local, sustainable ingredients. Woven into the mix are American favorites, evolving seasonally using the highest quality local produce, beef and lamb, cheeses, and cream. At PHeaSt, Executive Chef Wyatt P. Lash, Jr. will be collaborating with Nice Roots Farm at SHARE of Hunting Park.
Kris
Kris was born out of a desire to bring great food at great prices to a little niche in the old neighborhood at 1100 Federal Street in Philadelphia. As a rebirth of Kristian’s, Kris is a casual, intimate dining experience with homemade pastas, classic meat dishes, decadent desserts, and more. Chef Kristian Leizzi is known for his seasonal Mediterrean fare and was recently praised for his exciting brunch menu. Chef Kristian will be paired with SPHS Gardens and grower Molly DeVinney at PHeaSt.
The excitement is growing with only two more weeks until this incredible evening of food and fun. We can’t wait to see you there!
