Join PHS Young Friends on Wednesday, August 15, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm for a tour of the green roof at the PECO building at 2301 Market Street in Philadelphia. Spanning more than 45,000 square feet, the PECO green roof features an observation deck and stunning views of downtown Philadelphia.

The rooftop garden, on the top of an eight-story section of the building, holds growing media of up to eight inches thick, and the vegetative covering reduces rainwater runoff by up to 70%, and also insulates the building. It is the largest green roof on an existing building in Philadelphia. The planting design for the PECO roof contrasts  low-growing, non-native succulents over the extensive area with native perennials and ornamental grasses in the planting beds surrounding the viewing deck.

Tour participants must be at least 18 years of age. Click here to register, or contact Allison Burkhart for more information. The cost is $5 for members and $10 for nonmembers (free for PHS members with a Young Friends add-on).
