The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) is pleased to announce Einstein Healthcare Network as a Founding Sponsor of the Plant One Million project. Plant One Million is a regional partnership led by PHS to plant one million trees throughout 13 counties in southeastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. The goal is to educate residents and companies about the need for trees and restore the region’s tree canopy–the area of land shaded by trees –by 30 percent. Measuring the area of land covered by tree canopy is an important yardstick for a healthy environment, because trees improve air and water quality.

The two-year partnership with Einstein will include tree plantings at several Einstein locations, including its newest facility, Einstein Medical Center Montgomery, opening in September 2012 in East Norriton, PA. This state-of-the-art, LEED-certified campus will feature 30 acres of open green space and will utilize environmentally sustainable practices. In addition, PHS and Einstein will create recognition programs for patients, a celebratory tree planting day, tree education workshops through the PHS Tree Tenders program, and much more.

Plant One Million embodies the enduring commitment at Einstein to make the communities it serves better, healthier places to live. Barry Freedman, president and CEO of Einstein Healthcare Network, recently said, “Einstein Healthcare Network’s commitment to restoring tree canopy mirrors its devotion to providing outstanding healthcare services and education to the Greater Philadelphia region and beyond.”
